What on Earth is a Buddymoon?

Just when we thought we were done at 3 day weddings…Introducing the bloody Buddymoon!
What’s a Buddymoon you ask??? You’ll be sorry you asked! Buckle up and get ready to re-mortgage the house, this one takes the post-wedding party to a whole new level. But look, you only get married once so why not ‘stretch the arse out of it’ as they say!

So, what is a Buddymoon?
The Buddymoon is exactly what it sounds like: your honeymoon… but in a group with your friends. It is usually a chilled holiday just after the wedding, where the newlyweds jet off with their closest friends and/or family for a post-wedding getaway. It’s a bit like a mini moon… except instead of peace and privacy, you’re sharing cocktails, playlists, and pool floats with the gang.
It’s basically an encore to the big day, and for some couples, it makes complete sense. Especially if your friends have travelled from far and wide and you want more quality time before heading off on your solo honeymoon (or skipping that altogether).
The Pros of a Buddymoon
The party continues
Let’s face it , sometimes the wedding ends too soon. A Buddymoon lets the buzz last a bit longer with more dancing, drinks, and poolside bonding, and also postpones those post wedding blues.
Memories with your nearest + dearest
You’ve spent months (maybe years) planning a day with your favourite people. The Buddymoon gives you actual time with them, minus the schedule and stress, to just chill out.
Group travel perks
Big villas, group discount, It’s chaotic, but cost-efficient.
How to Plan a Buddymoon (Without Losing the Plot)
Pick the right people
This isn’t the time to extend the invite to your cousin’s plus one. Keep it tight, close, and full of good vibes and no drama.
Set expectations early
Group dinners? Optional. Alone time? Mandatory. Make it clear that this is still your honeymoon and not a group tour.
Consider a hybrid
Many couples are now doing a 3–4 day Buddymoon before sneaking off somewhere just the two of them. Best of both worlds.
Choose your destination wisely
If you want something easy to get to, relaxing, and not too pricey. Think Lisbon, Dubrovnik, or even somewhere Irish like Dingle or West Cork for a local twist.
Keep it light
No need to over-plan, this is about winding down, not revving up again. Think beach, brunch, mimosas, repeat.
Final Thoughts
The Buddymoon might not be for everyone, but if you’ve got a circle of friends who feel more like family, and you’re not ready for the fun to stop, it could be the post-wedding plan of dreams.
And if not? Bookmark it anyway… for vow renewal ideas in 10 years.
