Question 1:
Rose Gold Engagement Rings?
Yes this is a thing and yes it can be difficult to source BUT Fields have a great service. In both the main Fields collection and Northern Star collections, the majority of the styles come in all 4 of the core jewellery metals – Gold (9ct & 18ct), White Gold, Platinum and Rose Gold. You will need to go in store and your wedding sales assistant will be able to bring you through what is available and the time to arrive in store. They can take all your measurements and give you an idea of options to match your wedding band with their rose gold wedding bands too. Also, they have a ring size guide online if that helps!
Question 2:
White Gold V Platinum?
Brilliant question and this used to come up all the time when I working in jewellery. So let me break down the difference between the two:
White Gold – This is essentially yellow gold with a plating on it. That plating is that beautiful white gold. BUT like all platings, they wear off and fade over time and wear and tear. The gold tone starts to break through. When that happens, you will need to get whats can Rhodium Plating / Re-Rhodium Plating where the ring is re-plated essentially. I’ve known brides that had to get their engagement rings re-rhodium plated before their wedding as they were wearing religiously for a year so there was a fade. Every time you have to get this process, it costs money. Over the life time of the ring that can clock up in cost not to mention having a wedding ring to add to the mix. So cheaper upfront but long term can cost more. It needs to done roughly every 8-12 months and it can be roughly €100-€150 per re-plating.
Platinum – This is a core metal itself which means it’s the same as your yellow gold status. There is no plating. What you see on shelf is what you get. The only maintenance is clean as you would with other rings. It is more expensive upfront. For example, right now you can get a 18ct white gold .40 carat stone engagement ring at Fields at €2100 and an equivalent look at 18ct platinum .40 carat stone is €2600. The upgrade to this metal is marginal, it’ s the cut, clarity and carat of the diamond that actually drives the style and obviously unique styles can yield a higher price.
Question 3:
Popular shapes Styles for Engagement Rings?
This can vary store to store and what’s important to note is that it’s rare to have defining trends in engagement rings as this is a timeless piece. There have been some influences that would have rivalled this such as when a royal gets engaged. The most popular are the tulip or solitaire (single stone) rings and many go for the single stone with diamonds inserted in the band on both sides. After that, vintage style rings are sought after a lot and Fields have a collection with Kathy De Stafford dedicated in this style.
Question 4:
Matching oval / other shaped engagement rings with a wedding band?
It doesn’t actually matter what shape your ring is, majority of engagement rings have an elevated claw for the key stones meaning that the the straight bands work perfectly. The best thing is to come in for an appointment and try the different options. There are wishbone shapes for round/ cluster styles too.
Question 5:
Average prices of wedding rings?
This will vary pending where you go. In Fields, prices start at €499 for ladies and €325 for males and can up to whatever you want.
Question 6:
Wedding ring options & prices for Men?
Men have a big choice in Fields. There are 9ct / 18ct yellow gold, white gold and platinum metals and then you can have a thin simple with rounded edge or straight edge right through to brushed effects and even with diamonds stones. An option that some like is the titanium metal, by no means a metal for life but for a groom that has no intention of wearing a ring this can work. Prices are roughly €100.
Question 7:
Best way to clean your engagement ring before big day?
You can buy some at home cleaning solutions to have at home. One great tool is the Diamond Dazzle Stick as this little stick can fit in a pocket and can give those last minute twinkles before the photos kick in. It’s only €12.50. Alternatively, you can pop in store and book a cleaning.
Question 8:
If your engagement ring is platinum, does your wedding band ned to be platinum too?
This is really up to you personally. If you go white gold, you will see a colour difference and the white gold point around fading to yellow (see question 2) will be very obvious against the platinum.
Question 9:
How far in advance do you need to buy your wedding rings?
For some, you can arrive in store that day and provided you don’t need re-sizes, you could have them that day. If you like one that needs to be ordered in then 6 weeks. For customised or more bespoke adaptations, that can be 12 weeks. I would give myself the 12-14 weeks just in case you do end up doing something more bespoke. It’s better to be safe than sorry.
Question 10:
If you buy your engagement with Fields, do they give discount on wedding bands?
Yes! You get 10% of wedding bands when you buy your engagement ring with Fields.
