Review – The Heritage

My Heritage Break

Within the last year, FBD Hotels & Resorts acquired The Heritage in Killenard and to be honest, prior to this, I didn’t really hear or know much about it. In the last few months, I started to hear a little bit more as there was significant investment made to develop and refurbish the hotel. I was invited to come and experience what the venue has to offer. Of course, I didn’t think twice about packing up the family and jumping the car!

It’s just a little over an hour to get there and you are brought in to Ireland’s midlands. There is so much on the doorstep including Kildare Village (15 minute drive) and Rock of Dunmase visitor site and the estate comes a wide selection of facilities.

As soon as you step in to the lobby, you just get that feeling that you are somewhere special. The décor is classic and you are immediately greeted by an impressive staircase. I started picturing wedding pictures being hosted on it. It’s marble from head to toe and I absolutely adore this style, high ceilings, crisp and clean and big ornate flowers everywhere. The flowers are created by Finesse Weddings.

The staff are so friendly, for me, this is their biggest asset. I always say this, you can have the most glamorous venue in the world but if the staff aren’t genuinely warm and welcoming, what’s the point. The local staff were so nice and they got to know my boys names and were so kind to them.

Our room was unbelievable. We had what can only be described as a mini house to stay in. There was a balcony and our room overlooked the golf course. We dined in the hotel and the food was excellent. The menu is traditional with some contemporary flare. What I liked about the menu was the simplicity and no overcomplication. You can check out my pictures….warning….you will crave!

The facilities are great and it’s only when you travel with kids that you realise how important it is to have good facilities. There is a leisure centre including pool, spa, golf resort, playground, playstation games room and then playroom. Any guest attending a wedding here is in for a treat.

The Ballroom had just been renovated and when I arrived some of the final touches were being made. The best way to describe the décor is ‘exquisite’ or as the marketing brochures call it ‘opulent’. Again, you high ceilings, big chandeliers and a bright and neutral décor. Their new brochure & packages had just landed when I arrived and it is very well thought through. You get a very strong idea of what you can expect at The Heritage and the price point id very good. The value in the package is excellent and I like the flexibility that the venue offers. If your wedding theme is classic, glamourous and contemporary, The Heritage is the ideal. There are more developments happening over the coming year and I can’t wait to see what’s in store. I highly recommend meeting the team for a viewing when you start your wedding venue journey.
