Review – Headfort Arms Hotel

The first time I came across The Headfort Arms Hotel in Kells was roughly 2006, I was working in a fellow Meath hotel and I met owner siblings Olivia and Vincent Duff at a Meath Tourism event in their hotel. What struck me straight away was the passion the Duff family had for the business of weddings and hospitality. They had a non-compromising sense of customers needs and they really made me sit up and listen. We get to 2015 and my lovely friend Una got married there and it was an absolutely beautiful and fun day. The one key takeaway for me was the food. They don’t hold back on portions AND they offered second servings! It was greatly appreciated let me tell you.

In the last week, I was invited to return to The Headfort Arms to view the venue during their big wedding fair. Let me bring you through the details.

Ceremony:

The Headfort Arms has exclusive access to ‘The Red Chapel’ and it is out of this world. A beautiful original chapel from the old convent is offered to couples getting married at The Headfort Arms. It is a non-religious chapel so you can have a civil, humanist or non-legal ceremony there. There’s lovely acoustics for music and plenty of gorgeous light. As you enter, you will see a feature wall using signage from Merchant Brothers Sheriff Street. A really cool backdrop for your photos.

Arrival:

Take a step across the road and you’ll be back at the hotel. Guests are welcomed to the private garden area where they can enjoy some finger food, drinks and mingling. They also have their very own ‘Kells Gin’ for your guests to enjoy. There’s plenty of comfy outdoor seating, heating, a private bar hatch and loos. When you visit you get a lovely sense of what the day would be like with guests all mingling on the lawn. For the rainy days, they have a great in door reception area too.

Dining:

When the dinner bell chimes, guest are the invited to be seated in the Kenlis Ballroom. It is a bright and beautiful room. It’s Georgian style means you get high ceilings, coving and a nice neutral colour scheme. The bar is in the room meaning that your guests are all together and of course if you want to do your speeches or first dance, you could do that back out in your private garden area. The food is very very good, it’s one of the main features! As mentioned, lovely portions and second servings. They don’t scrimp on any food. It’s fantastic. The room can take up to 300 guests but nice and adaptable for smaller numbers too.

Staying:

There is ample accommodation for your guests. BUT the bridal suite is the best! The bedroom itself works within the Georgian style it sits within but couples can enjoy a very special bathroom. There is a spacious hydro shower but an impressive jacuzzi bath is the big feature.
