Review – Bespoke Diamonds

I was invited out to Bespoke Diamonds to gain an understanding of how custom made engagement rings and wedding bands are made and what is popular at the moment. I knew of them as they won awards from WeddingsOnline.ie.

Bespoke Diamonds are located on Kildare Street, right in front of Dail Eireann. It has a very private setting which means that if you are planning on popping the question, more than likely, you won’t get caught in the act!

I learnt so much about the process of sourcing quality diamonds and creating bespoke pieces. For one, Martin had to go to Antwerp the day before as he wanted to hand pick a stone for a client and wanted to physically see it rather than just accepting the normal credentials. When I worked in jewellers, I was only really aware of the actual final set piece. The where and how was not on my radar but when you look in to the story of the stone, there is just so much behind it and it feels like it is a bit more special.

Bespoke Diamonds source their stones from Russia, Canada and Australia. The Australians do more of the specialised cuts. Martin brought me through the features from each country and explained that the Russian stones are probably the best. When I thought of diamonds, I just assumed that everything was coming in from Africa. It appears that the stones that Bespoke are bringing in are definitely more ethically traded. I also never knew that Russia was a diamond mine heaven!

I took advantage of my time by trying on practically every ring that Martin had in stock. There was one ring that was worth €20,000 just sitting on my ring finger….It killed me to hand it back! My initial impression of getting a custom made engagement ring in Ireland was that it would be more costly but Bespoke Diamonds can actually work with your budget and source whatever is workable for you. They have a range in stock that has a price point of €1,500 right up to whatever you want. As you can see, there is something for everyone.

One of the main selling points is that if you see a design that you like on Pinterest or Instagram and you cannot find it in the shops, or if the shop versions are too expensive, you can go to Bespoke Diamonds and they will work off that design.

Another amazing thing I found out is that, if you are the proposer and are picking the ring, you run the risk of your other half not liking the style that you picked. Bespoke Diamonds have a policy of allowing you to change it once the ring hasn’t been worn. How brilliant is that!?
