Pregnant….Again!

Round 3…..Ding, Ding, Ding!!!

I’ve never really written about pregnancy before but this pregnancy announcement has sparked a lot of questions in my DM’s so I feel compelled talk about it! This is a very funny one for me to talk about as with my wedding side, I can talk about that in my sleep and I feel that I have developed expertise there. However, here on this baby journey, I am far from expert and i’m absolutely worried and stressed like all of you. My first time being pregnant was a very tough pregnancy. I was sick for the entire time and just found the experience really mad as i’ve never experienced anything like it before. The second time on Adam I was far more relaxed and it was so close since I had James that I was in the zone and felt really confident. Overall, it was a good pregnancy. This time, it’s 4 years since Adam came along and we are well and truly out of baby mode. Our car boot is empty when we go places! When we renovated the house almost 2 years ago, we threw everything in to the skip! Cots, baby changing tables….the works. I sold my buggy… you name it.

So here we are on round 3 and starting from scratch! You may be wondering why after going through pregnancy twice am I so clueless and nervous, well I had a weird delivery on Adam and my body went in to some sort of shock, I have no idea what it was or what is was from but I thought I was going to die. I hate saying this out loud but obviously I was fine and in very safe hands but that worry really stuck with me. This will also be my third C section so Im acutely aware of the recovery ahead of me. Despite all of that, the prize at the end is well worth it and that brings me to why I chose the care path that I have chosen.

I chose to return to the Rotunda and go fully private with Dr Vicky O’ Dwyer. My reason for choosing Vicky O’ Dwyer was when I looked at the key research areas of each consultant, I spotted that Dr O’ Dwyer had conducted a lot of research in C sections. Plus when I looked at reviews, so many said that she was really lovely and I didn’t want to be with anyone that was no-nonsense. I just wanted someone nice. Second to that, I found that she had an instagram account and her information was brilliant. She hosts brilliant Q&A’s and then has a lot of great videos depending on whatever it is you are looking for.

So the next question I was asked a lot was around the difference between semi private and private. For me, the private room is irrelevant but that is one part of the difference. The dedicated care was what I wanted. A third section comes with higher risks and I just wanted the same person the whole way through. With semi private, you will be under a consultants team so you don’t always get the same doctor for your appointments and I found the last time I went semi private, the waiting times were a little long. I work for myself now so I need to be in and out with no messing. Semi private was absolutely fine other than that. I didn’t go public on any pregnancy so I can’t comment on that at all. Choosing your care seems to be a very personal thing and for me, it was whatever was going to help me sleep better at night.

Many of you asked was it harder being pregnant third time round…. definitely not as hard as the first time round but this pregnancy feels different. I am really tired but I have two little men already and I work long hours so that will add to that. I am definitely more hormonal. No idea and before you ask….no, baby 3 is not a girl……we are having another boy!!! 3 Boys!! And before you ask…no, i’m not disappointed that i’m not having a girl. I just look at the boys and how close they are and am so happy to add to that pack. Not to mention that I will have every Sunday morning off when they all feck off to golf! The 3 of them will have each other and be the best of friends. For me, that’s everything. Don’t get me wrong….I’m flashing forward to the teenage years thinking of the madness that will go through this house!

We found out good and early as since i’m over 35 (shhhh) you are encouraged to do the NIPT which (again no expert) is an early detailed scan & blood test that identifies for markers of various syndromes. Plus, you can find out the gender in that test as well. It was just under €500 and well worth it. The scan is phenomenal, it is crystal clear and you can do it from 9/10 weeks. It was so lovely to do.

Over the next few weeks, i’m going to share various bits and bobs on my little journey and that could be from my covid and pregnancy experience to shopping for various different baby items seeing as though Im starting from scratch all over again!

I really hope you join me on the journey!
