Getting Wedding Fit From Home

The one thing that this crazy Covid 19 has thought me is that it is almost near impossible not to end up not putting on a stone when in isolation. Weight aside, I really need exercise to keep me sane. This whole situation meant that I couldn’t go to my normal PT at The Irish Calisthenics Academy and that has been a struggle.

There were 4 things that I took on to keep my mind and body as fit as it could be.

complete body fitness navan

  • Complete Body Fitness:

CBF is a fitness power house based in Navan and many of my friends go to their classes in Navan but logistically that wouldn’t work for me. I was delighted when I saw that they were doing 2 classes per week online. I signed up and it is €50 for 5 weeks x2 classes or €6 pay as you go. They run classes from 10am Wednesday and Saturday and you have a choice each day to follow Eamonn or Colm. Each brother takes either a kettle bell or body weight class. I always go with kettle bell and I swear to god they work you so hard. I never thought I had any discipline to actually break a sweat working out at home but this really works you and the fact that it is live on zoom, you’ve nowhere to hide. couch to 5km

  • Apps:

There’s 2 apps I use. The first is one that I initially used religiously – Couch to 5km called 5K Runner.I used this every 2 days to get to 5k initially and then every few weeks I would pick a random week or day and just follow that programme. I wasn’t very fit when I started in January but by March I was running 5k. Since Covid 19 I have used it whenever there was time as I have the kids at home full time so the opportunity to get out is more scarce but it is excellent to get you up and out the door. The other app is 7 Minute by Fitness 22. There are 5 different work outs: Classic, Fat Burn, Upper Body, Lower Body and Abs Blaster. You just need to give is welly for 7 minutes. It takes a few go’s to get used to the technique of the exercises but they are great and it’s just a good way to do a bit of exercise when you dont have a huge amount of time to spare.

joe wicks online workout

  • Free Online:

Like the nation, I have dipped in and out of the odd Joe Wicks exercises. He has some fantastic 20 minute fat burning sessions and they are great but I do find I slack off and maybe don’t push myself as hard as I do with Complete Body Fitness.

headspace app

  • Walking:

This is my favourite (I actually don’t love exercising, I do it as a necessity rather than a preference :)) I could walk for hours. Of course with 2 little ones I can’t get out on my own as much as I would like but I would walk and walk for miles if I could. I live beside the Phoenix Park so it would be sinful not to get out. I have a fitbit so I count my steps. In the initially weeks after having the boys, I walked every day with the boys and that brought my weight down so much. It’s so good for you and for me gives my head space to think through priorities, listen to podcasts, forget my worries and just do some mindfulness. I use the headspace app as they do a walking mindfulness class for 20 minutes and it’s really good to just tune out everything and slow down the mind.

All of the above works well for me for the reasons I outlined but even though I have been active throughout the later part of the lock down, Im still eating like a horse so no matter what I do, Im not necessarily losing weight as much as I’d like but it has kept me positive!

In saying that, Im really looking forward to going back to my Calisthenics training with Eric asap!
