For the Tailored Groom To Be

Guilty as charged…..I do spend a lot of time raving about my favourite wedding dress designers and stores, BUT today I’m bringing to you a whole new level of groom-to-be style. I was introduced to A Wolf in Wool via Dream Wedding Galway and I was completely blown away by their approach to tailored luxury. This is where grooms can actually get a little spoiling.

For a bride, the ceremony of choosing a dress is such a special occasion and I always feel that groom’s don’t get the full special experience. Now, don’t get me wrong, many may not have any interest but I know that my other half would have loved a little bit more of a fuss.

a wolf in woolA Wolf in Wool brings that very special treatment to grooms-to-be. They are a new grooms wear brand who bring a modern twist to the traditional tailoring experience. Paul and the team take a very personal approach to a very personal experience. They are Ireland’s only dedicated made-to-measure tailors, they don’t do off the peg at all. Given how they’re constructed, these are investment pieces that can last years.

Best of all, with their online design tool, you can put together the perfect suit on your phone or laptop without even leaving the house! And the fit is guaranteed.

A Wolf in Wool take care of every little detail, from personalised embroidery on the collar, to ensuring the best quality materials and construction. You have total control.

In normal times, they visit a groom at home or workplace to get the 20+ precise measurements a made-to-measure suit requires but, at the moment, they have a virtual system which allows them to capture the measurements online.

At A Wolf in Wool, we aren’t like your other suit stores, we’ve No stock to push and No suppliers to please, so you know the suit you create is one to be proud of.”

When it comes to colour, they offer a multitude. With black typically reserved for tuxedos, navy, dark blue and mid-to-light greys would be the typical ‘go-to’ for most couples here in Ireland. With lighter tans, creams and pastel blues available for destination weddings. ‘On-trend’ plums and burgundy’s are also available as Wolf in Wool isn’t limited to seasons or stock, everything is cut to order.

Paul and the team like to ensure the personality of each groom is captured in their suit – so they help build a foundation of a strong colour by figuring out the formality of your upcoming wedding – the darker the base colour – the more formal the impression will be. From there, they help incorporate any colour scheme or idea that the bride (or groom!) would like to run with.

Once colour preference is established, they move to look at every detail. Even plain, solid colour suits can become considered pieces. One way to add some visual interest for example is to go with a weave – a bit of texture on your suit. While it will have very little impact on its overall formality, up close, it can lift the whole outfit.

Alternatively, a pattern is an easy way to make a bold statement on your big day. Whether it be plaid, check or a windowpane pattern, by incorporating pattern and with it, a splash of colour, the wedding party can really stand out from the crowd.

Top Tip

Our main piece of advice is that your waistcoat either matches the rest of your suit perfectly or it contrasts in a different colour entirely. You want to avoid (the waistcoat) being just a shade or two lighter than your jacket. It should make a statement or, blend in perfectly, whatever you prefer.

By bringing in an expert to hand cut and tailor your suit, you are guaranteed that every element of your suit has been curated to complement and add to each other. No element will be left out – luxury means that no thread is left behind. And more importantly, you have complete control over every element – colour, design, fit and details. You no longer have to settle or compromise on what’s on the peg.”
