Review: Drumhierny Woodland Hideaway
A Wedding in the Woods: Why Drumhierny Woodland Hideaway, Co. Leitrim Is One of Ireland’s Most Unique Wedding Venues. Welcome to my Drumhierny Wedding Venue Review.
As part of a recent trip to Leitrim, I stopped by Drumhierny Woodland Hideaway, and let me tell you, it absolutely blew me away. I’ve seen my fair share of venues, but this one is in a league of its own. More and more couples are asking me about venues that are truly different, something that feels like a full experience rather than just a venue. Drumhierny is exactly that — a woodland wonderland that’s been thoughtfully designed, family-run, and bursting with charm.

From the moment you turn off the road and head into the trees, you feel like you’re entering a secret world. And that’s kind of the point, it’s a hideaway in the truest sense. You’re not just getting married here, you’re escaping into nature, gathering your people, and creating something completely your own.
The Warmest Welcome
I was greeted by Alison and her family (the team behind this stunning space) and it was all hands on deck when I arrived. You can just feel their passion for what they’ve built here. It’s rare to come across a venue that’s so hands-on and heart-led, and it’s clear they love every minute of what they do.
Your Ceremony, Your Way

Let’s talk about the options. You can choose from a ceremony on the lawn which can be fully covered, or if you want a more rustic vibe, The Barn is the perfect choice. Either way, your ceremony will feel intimate, relaxed, and very much rooted in the natural setting.
The Cedaroo
On arrival, guests are welcomed into The Cedaroo which is named after the signature cedarwood used throughout the venue. There’s a beautiful outdoor area with firepits, perfect for music, drinks, and that “kick off your shoes and settle in” vibe. When I visited, The Shed Distillery, home of Drumshanbo Gunpowder Gin was doing the drinks reception. It’s produced right up the road so this was a lovely local touch.

The Wedding Feast
Now, the wedding feast in The Barn is where Drumhierny really gives you creative freedom. You can choose banquet-style long tables, a sweetheart table setup, or something more casual. It’s your day, your way. You can bring in your own décor to add your stamp, and with the bar located in the same space, it keeps the party in one place all night long.

A question I’m always asked “When do speeches happen?” Well, at Drumhierny, that’s your decision. There are no strict timelines here, just flexibility.
When it comes to catering, you’ve got options. I tasted Delicious Catering’s black pudding arancini (10/10, you need to try it!) and Yellow Door‘s canapés. They are both fantastic and offer a variety of menu options. They bring their own service teams too. Or, if you’re after something more interactive, Chef Sean Meehan brings the BBQ vibes with a live-fire grill setup. I had a BBQ at my own wedding, so I’m all for this kind of atmosphere. It’s social, fun, and memorable.

Dance the Night Away
Once dinner is done, the room flips to dance mode. There’s loads of space for your band or DJ, and the energy just flows. Aisling mentioned a wedding that had a Ceilí….Now that would be some craic!
Sleep Under the Trees
When it’s time to call it a night, your guests don’t need taxis or to trek off to different hotels. They stay on site in the most beautiful lodges. Each one is fully equipped, sleeps 6–8, and is styled with comfort in mind. It honestly feels like your own private wedding village. And yes, that signature cedarwood features here too.

The Wellness Sanctuary (aka the dream morning after)
The next morning, your guests can take a woodland walk (a great way to clear the head after a few too many cocktails!) and then head down a path to find the hidden Wellness Sanctuary.

This is next-level. Think outdoor Voya seaweed baths, a hot tub, cedarwood sauna, and heated chill zones where you can sit in your robe, breathe in the fresh air, and relive the night before with your nearest and dearest. You can also book in for treatments. Alison told me that they’ve seen a rise in “Zen Hen” weekends too. An increasing number of brides and friends are opting for wellness instead of the wilder hen party vibe. I’m all for that!
Final Thoughts
This venue just has something very special about it. It’s immersive, thoughtful, and really allows couples to do things their own way. From the family-run feel to the food, flexibility, and forest setting . Drumhierny Woodland Hideaway is 100% a must-see on your venue list.
