DIY Eternity Wedding Candles

Make Your Own Wedding Candles

Extract taken from my recent article at Cork Wedding Magazine

Most couples go way over budget on their wedding décor. One of the reasons for this is that we tend to buy all of our décor in dribs and drabs and not see how much it is clocking up until its too late.

One of the areas where you can go over budget is on candles. Candles for me was a must as I love lighting and the natural light from a flame. Let me bring you through some easy peasy and cost effective candle styles for your wedding day.

Most eternity candles cost over €20 and that can depend on how much personalisation you want on it. If you have been shopping around, you may have seen ones with your names and date of the wedding but if you are not too fussed on having this, here is a really quick and easy way of creating your eternity candle.

HOW TO MAKE:

Step 1: You can pick up a pillar candle from any Penney’s, Dunnes or décor store. You will also need x2 thinner candelabra candles too.

Step 2: Buy some ribbon or cut material in the colour scheme of your wedding day. You can buy ready-made bows or streamers to add an extra touch.

Step 3: You will need a strong adhesive. I generally use a glue gun or super glue.

Step 4: Start with your pillar candle. Dust down to ensure that there is no debris left on it. Take you ribbon and measure the length and cut with a small overlap, enough to allow the glue to join up the material.

Step: 5 Run a thin line of glue along the end of the ribbon. Place that end on to the candle in a straight line. Wrap the rest of the ribbon around the candle and line a thin line of glue on the other end on the side that faces the candle.

Step 6: Place that end down and smooth with the back of a teaspoon. Leave to set for 15 minutes.

Step 7: If you have bought an embellishment such as a bow, button, brooch….you name it, you can add the adhesive to the back and then press down to cover the line of material with the glue line.

Step 8: Allow to dry out for 10 minutes. Leave lying down until needed.

Step 9. Take your slimmer candelabra candles and repeat the steps above.

Step 10: Give to your florist to add in to your floral spray for alter or ceremony table.

Voila…..
