Bride Wars: The Copycat Bride
Oh you guys LOOOOOVED this one! A few months ago, a bride reached out to me with a bit of a predicament. She’s getting married next year, and she’s also a bridesmaid for her friend who is getting married six months after her. Let’s call the first bride, Bride A, and her friend, Bride B. Both of them are bridesmaids for each other, and they’ve been sharing ideas and chatting about their big days.

Now, Bride B found something really cool for her wedding. For the sake of privacy, let’s say it’s a candy cart—though that’s not the actual item, it’s just to give you an idea. Bride B loved this idea and booked it for her wedding, which is set to take place six months after Bride A’s.
Bride A, thinking it was a fantastic idea, went ahead and booked the same novelty item for her wedding without realising the potential fallout. She excitedly told Bride B about it, thinking she’d be thrilled. But instead, Bride B was outraged. She felt that this unique touch was a significant, individual feature of her wedding and was upset that many of their mutual guests would now see it first at Bride A’s wedding, making it look like she had copied her friend.
Bride A is now in a tough spot. She didn’t intend to upset her friend, but she also loves the idea and feels that no one really owns a wedding idea. She sees it as akin to saying, “Just because you’re wearing a dress doesn’t mean I can’t wear one.“
I can empathise with Bride B; she did her homework and thought she had found something unique for her special day. Her mistake, perhaps, was oversharing. But weddings are a bit of an open market, aren’t they?
You could just as easily see something on Instagram and decide to include it in your own wedding without knowing that a friend had the same idea.
This situation has sparked a debate: Should Bride A back down to keep the peace, or should she go ahead because weddings are fair game and no one owns an idea?
Well according to most of you in Instagram, Bride A should cancel and shouldn’t have stepped on Bride B’s toes!
After this post ran across Insta and TikTok, Bride A confirmed that she cancelled the booking as her friendship with Bride B is too important.
And for everyone asking What on Earth did they fall out about…..
It was a Champagne Tower pour rather than cutting of the cake….
Enjoy Gang!
