Bespoke Engagement Ring

I popped out to Bespoke Diamonds a few weeks ago to get an understanding of how you get an engagement ring made from scratch.
When I got engaged, I had an idea in my head and I couldn’t find it in the shops. I assumed that getting it made would cost an arm and a leg and moved the idea out of my head. Luckily enough, I found the perfect ring in the end but for many, they end up settling for something that isn’t their first choice.
There are various reasons why someone may choose to get an engagement ring custom made, such as; want something different or not in the shops, budget, value, quality or saw it on pinterest/instagram.
I had all sorts of misconceptions before I went in such as, I thought it would be too expensive, it would take too long to get made, if I wasn’t happy with the end results I would be stuck with it.
After my time in Bespoke Diamonds, I can now see that I had nothing to worry about.
How it works:
- You book an appointment to meet with one of the team and talk through your preferences. If you have seen some images of rings that you like you should bring the pictures with you.
- The Bespoke team will work on the setting which is the ring part. They have hundreds of options for you to look at or of you have to get something drawn up, they will draw it up.
- Once you know the setting you want, you would then pick your stone. This is really where the magic happens. You will need to consider the 4 C’s: Cut, Clarity, Carat and Colour. Read my article which breaks down each of these terms. In summary; cut is the shape, clarity refers to how clear the stone is, clarity is the actual grading of the stone and colour is how far or close the colour is to a yellow colour. In Bespoke Diamonds, they talk you through your stone in great detail. Once they have an idea of your budget, they can find you the right stone at the right price. If they don’t have it in stock they can order it in or in some cases, Martin (owner) is known to pop over to Antwerp to personally select stones.
- If the stone is in stock it is just a matter of booking in to get the full ring put together. If there are pieces that need special design or ordering in, of course it will take longer.
Here’s the best part!
If you are the proposer and if your other half doesn’t like the ring……no problem, once the ring hasn’t been worn, you can bring it back and change for something else. Now that’s service!
